Gas Pressures

DALTON'S LAW

the total pressure of a mixture of gases is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the individual component gases.

BOYLE'S LAW

There is an inverse relationship exists between pressure and volume.

As volume increases, the pressure of the gas decreases in proportion.

As volume decreases, the pressure of the gas increases in proportion.

GAS PRESSURES & HOW THEY ARE RELATED TO BREATHING

BLUE COLORED SIDE IS O2 POOR

Blood from capillaries to heart which transports to alveoli for exchange

RED SIDE IS O2 RICH

Blood from alveoli returns to heart which transports to tissues

Gas exchange via diffusion across a pressure gradient

Air is a mix of gases with pressure

Each type of gas contributes a partial pressure
